These Nike SB Dunk High Denim Forbes are based off of a 2002 SB dunk low that only saw a release of 444 pairs.
The colorway is a design by Reese Forbes (hence their nickname). The lows are extremely rare, and so thanks to Nike’s TRD releases, we get a chance to grab them in a high cut.
I generally stay away from denim kicks as they are hard for me to incorporate into outfits where I am already wearing denim. In this case, the darker denim and other colors (red, yellow) allow these to work with lighter jeans. I’m guessing khakis would also look great with these. Feel free to incorporate some red into your outfit, as it will help draw out the minimal red used on the sneaker.
I always did like this colorway but I’m not willing to spend the exorbitant amount required to get my hands on the original. Thankfully, Nike has this version available which means I can finally sport some Denim Forbes. If you like SB’s and always wanted the classic version of these, this TRD retro is probably the next best thing!
How Are The Materials?
The materials are really nice on these! The denim upper is sturdy and of good quality, yet not painfully rigid. A cool feature with the denim is the slightly frayed edge around all the paneling. It really gives the shoe a rugged look similar to the originals. The contrast stitching is also a nice touch and helps the shoe “pop” a bit more.
How Do They Fit?
I almost didn’t buy these because I thought they looked way too stiff in pics online. Fortunately, the Nike SB Dunk High Denim Forbes fit true to size and is actually fairly comfortable. While these do feel narrower and sturdier than an orange box SB, they are still pliable enough to not damage my feet. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of comfort these provide for a newer SB release.
